About the edit
Maheshwar sits on the banks of the Narmada in Madhya Pradesh, and its looms have been weaving since the eighteenth century, when Rani Ahilyabai Holkar invited weavers to settle in the town. Maheshwari cloth is known for its clean surface, its quiet lustre and the discipline of its borders and lines.
Where Chanderi is sheer and airy, Maheshwari silk has more body. It holds a closer silhouette without stiffness, which is why we cut it into bias-led slip dresses and fitted evening midis rather than volume. Our Maheshwari dresses are handwoven in Mulberry silk from Maheshwar; the Mulberry Merlot midi carries additional handwork by kaarigars in Bhopal.
This is cloth made to be worn often and cared for gently, not saved for a single evening. Read Chanderi vs Maheshwari to understand how the two weaves differ, or browse our Chanderi dresses.
