Who are we without culture?

Enter the process

Who are we without the places and people that shaped us?

At Aishita Johri, our clothing is grounded in handwoven Indian textiles, approached not as a source of inspiration but as a continuum. The techniques are engaged with informed understanding, practiced discipline, and a regard for time, process and the hands behind them.

For our first collection, we chose to root ourselves in the textile heritage of Madhya Pradesh, bringing forward two of its most celebrated weaves: Chanderi and Maheshwari.

Chanderi

Chanderi - sourced from authentic weavers of Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh

Light as air, yet rich in character, Chanderi is known for its sheer texture, subtle sheen, and delicate motifs. Traditionally woven using fine silk and cotton yarns, it holds an almost ethereal quality, making it both luxurious and effortless.

Maheshwari

Maheshwari - sourced from authentic weavers of Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh

Originating from the town of Maheshwar, this textile is defined by its structure and quiet elegance. Characterised by its distinctive borders and reversible weaves, Maheshwari fabric balances strength with fluidity, making it versatile yet deeply rooted in tradition.

Five stages of making.

What you wear holds the memory of its making.

Once the fabric is woven, it travels into our atelier, where it is transformed into form.

This is where design meets construction, and vision meets skill.
